Basically it pulls anything moving at light speed, out of light speed before it can do any damage. Star Wars rebels introduced to a device that larger ships are equipped with. Edit for 1 - guys, I really don’t care anymore, you’re all going to have a different reason why I’m wrong about this point.Ģ)a defense against that kind of attack already exists. Even if they only wanted to take out the flagships. So they don’t have ships to throw around all the time. The rebels are loosely funded their universe government. So this has been brought up before, slightly lazy to find a link.īasically the idea of “why don’t they just ram each like that” has two explanations. Smaller ships, even at light speed, might not be able to break through the larger ships' shields. That's part of why Leia was pissed at Poe. You don't waste ships unless you absolutely have to. Look at how many of the resistance ships pre-date the rebellion. Flying straight at a superior ship is a good way to get blown up. They basically ignored her ship until it was too late to either avoid or shoot her down. Most big warships aren't going to just let another ship ram them. Even with this, it seems like holdo may have nearly missed, as she hit it quite off-center. This plus the tracking could make it much more likely to succeed. Most ships are much smaller and thus would be far harder to hit. Other ships might be able to do this again, we don't know for sure, but the tracking may have made the jump much more accurate. I assume it is possible because of a set of unique circumstances. It would have been nice for the movie to suggest that this was the case, but it seems like it could be inferred. This is pretty much what I've assumed as well. Hence, this is why Holdo was able to make the jump and slice through Snoke's ship since they were on the same "lane" of hyperspace and as we know this is new technology thus why space battles have not devolved into advanced ramming.Īgain this is just my interpretation but I would love any feedback regarding this theory and if anyone has any evidence disproving this. Therefore, my take on hyperspace tracking leads me to believe that the ship that the First Order were tracking the rebels from were only able to track the rebels as it put them on the same hyperspace "lane" as them. They all lead to the same place but everyone has their own separate lane such that two ships can be headed towards the same point in space in the same direction but not crash into each other. Moreover, I also believe that every hyperspace jump uses their own little "pathway" which can be thought of as different lanes on a road. This can be seen through various clips from past SW movies. I always thought of hyperspace in Star Wars to be more like finding a wormhole in space and hopping through it rather than travelling very fast. This is regarding the scene where Holdo rams Snoke's ship and "why aren't space battles just a bunch of ships ramming each other" Firstly I want to preface this by saying that I don't know if this has been said already but I recently read a complaint about TLJ surrounding this topic so I thought I'd give my take on it.
